Have you ever thought about how much we use technology in
our lives every day? I got to thinking about it the other day. I use technology
every single day!
I wake up in the morning to my alarm clock. It plays music
to gradually pull me out of deep sleep and prepare me for my day. After
stretching I lean over and check my phone before giving up my warm electric
blankets. I send texts responding to ones I slept through the night before. I
send one to my boyfriend to make sure he's going to be up and ready to go. I
then go into the bathroom and straighten my hair. After getting dressed I go
down stairs and walk my dogs. When I come inside I grab something out of the
fridge to eat. I throw it in the microwave and wait for it to finish cooking.
After it is finished I go into the living room and sit on the couch. I turn on
the T.V. and flip through finally deciding on the news to keep me up to date on
what is going on around the nation. I pull out my iPad to scroll through
Facebook keeping myself up to date with my friends and family that I don't see
on a regular basis. Keeping my eye on the clock, I wait until its close enough
time for school. When it’s time to go and go out to my car and drive to school.
First hour of the day: Band. We warm up and use and
electronic tuner to make sure all the sections are in tune. Then we use the
radio to put in the CD of the music we're playing to hear it first. The rest of
the hour is spent playing through all the music. Bell rings.
Second hour: Language Arts IV. I walk into class and see the
teacher left a note on the Smart Board telling us that she had to have a quick
meeting with another teacher and to sit quietly and read. I pull out my Nook
Simple Touch and pick up where I left off last night before bed. After reading
for a while, the teacher comes into the classroom. She tells us to go through
the notes we took on our iPad yesterday because there was going to be a quiz
over it today. I scrolled through reviewed my notes thankful I studied the
night before. After a couple of minutes of studying I switched over to the
school app that we used to take quizzes on.
I finished the quiz and go back to my Nook. Bell rings.
Third hour: College Algebra. I set down my books and go and
get a calculator. We start off the class by asking questions on our homework.
Then the teacher pulls up the notes for the section we study for the day on the
Promethean Board. I take down the notes on my iPad continuing on with my year
goal of being as close to paperless as possible; saving the environment in high
school. Bell rings.
Forth Hour: Study Hall. I head back down to the band room
with my homework. I spend the class period next to my boyfriend studying for
tests that week. We then finish up the last bits of homework. I go back and
grab my instrument and iPad and head to a practice room. Closing the door I
pull up my app to tune myself. After getting tuned I pull up sheet music I have
saved on my iPad. Bell rings.
Advisory. I head down to my advisor’s class room and sit
down. She announces what is going on this week at school and what is for lunch.
Nothing new. I pull out my Nook and start reading some more. Bell rings.
Lunch. While waiting in line I take out my smart phone and
text my friends making plans for after school. After responding to all the
texts I open my app to send a few Snap Chats back. It is finally my turn and I
grab a tray, food, and type in my number into the computer. I then find my
friends and sit down and eat. Bell rings.
Fifth hour: Study Hall. I head to my locker and grab my
laptop, iPad, Nook, and iPod and head back to the band room. I sit down and
turn on my laptop. I pull up my email and check the new emails. Nothing new. I
pull up scholarship websites and take some notes on when to fill out upcoming scholarships.
I find a couple to fill out. Ten minutes left and I reward myself with time to
read again. Best decision I made all day. Bell rings.
Sixth hour: Geography. I take my seat and look up at the
Smart Board. It has CNN Student News pulled up. The teacher comes in and has us
quiet down. We watch CNN and pull up a website on our iPads to talk about
current events. After that we pull up our presentations and spend the rest of
the class period presenting. Bell rings.
Seventh and Eight hour: College English Composition. I grab
my backpack and books and head out to my car. I jump in and drive out to the
college campus. Meeting up with my boyfriend we head inside and go to class. We
wait for the professor to show up. Taking out my iPad I log into my college
online syllabus and see what the class holds today. I have to research for a
paper and start writing it. I throw my iPad back in my backpack and pull out my
laptop. I type up my paper while the professor goes on. Bell rings.
This is just an example of my school day and how much I use
technology. Isn’t it crazy?! Thank God for technology!
